The OS and applications take up a lot of space and are usually easily
replaced from the original source.

Your own files are usually irreplacable and *MUCH* *MUC* *MUCH* more
important to backup.

Given a choice between wasting piles of disk space backin up the OS and
backing up your own files, you're an idiot if you choose to keep the
OS.
