I'm afraid of possibly screwing up something that is working. Plus I have to bring it up-to-date afterwards while preserving my own stuff. I'm not anywhere near as comfortable with this stuff as some people are because I don't have the understanding of what is actually going on underneath. I recently did a restore from yesterday's backup, after saving my home directory first, and I'm not really sure I did that right. I used to re-install Unix systems at the drop of a hat, but OS X seems to be a lot more complex. There are directory trees that contain stuff I just don't understand. Some have to be preserved and restored after the re-install and some don't. It seems safer to rebuild the cache.
