| Subject | IMAP Server |
My ISP provides POP mail service, but not IMAP mail service. An obvious solution would be to change my ISP to one the provides IMAP, but I want to explore alternatives. My motivation is only to be able use my desktop mail client and on occasion use my iPad to process my mail. POP does not really let me do that very well. I am not concerned about access to my mail when I am away from home. I am thinking that I could run an IMAP Server on an always on Max OS X system. I have a Mac Mini that I use as a DVR (with Eye TV) and it is always on. There seem to be quite a few IMAP Servers available, so it makes sense to narrow my search by asking for opinions. Any preferences for the IMAP Server? Would I need to change from Snow Leopard to Snow Leopard Server? Can the IMAP Server do periodic downloads of the mail from POP? Another alternative that would match my requirements would be an iPad mail application that would both download mail from a POP server and sync folders with my desktop mail client. Thanks in advance, -- John Holt
