I see a later article in the thread pointed out that current versions
of iTunes don't require Quicktime.

If you'd rather not use a perfectly good device because of some shitty
article you read on the net, you should probably give or sell it to
someone who can appreciate it and put it to good use. ; )

Anyone who has actually used the software knows the article is wrong.

The Register has a long history of writing articles that troll Apple and
Apple customers. Always consider the source.

The "thing" he should "throw away" is iTunes.
SharePod does everything "I" need, which is simply to copy MP3 files
from any iPod I want to any other iPod I want, or to any PC I want
and from any PC I want.

That's all "I" need, and iTunes can't even do that, even with
hundreds of megabytes compared to dozens of kilobytes for SharePod.

only because you need so very little and are stuck in the past.

the rest of the world wants far more functionality that that, and which
your shitty software can't ever provide.

You're one of the Apologists, so you would never note that iTunes
model is so restrictive, you can't do the simplest of things.

Did you read this article?
http://www.pcworld.com/article/232043/sharepod.html

Look at the first line:
"Want to share your media library with your best friend?
iTunes won't let you transfer your iPod's contents onto
     another PC, so download Sharepod."

Worse, iTunes has a nasty habit of destroying your entire library.

You won't believe me, and you'll make up excuses like any good
Apologist will, saying it's the users' fault iTunes destroyed their
entire library.

Did you ever read this article?
http://www.zath.co.uk/sharepod-review-transfer-files-from-ipod-to-computer-without-itunes/

Look at the bold line:
"If you re-install iTunes and sync your iPod with an empty library,
you’ll just end up with an empty iPod, and then you HAVE lost your music!
Before you start panicking about your precious music collection being
lost though, try a program called SharePod."

The problem you Apologists have is that you can't conceive of a lightweight
program that is "dead simple" to use and that won't destroy your entire library
if you make a single false move.

Either that, or you have absolutely no idea how iTunes operates.

not only can i do the simplest of things, but i can do the most complex
of things and everything in between, all without any issue whatsoever.

actually, it will let you do that even though it's copyright
infringement.

bullshit.

itunes will *never* delete anything without explicit confirmation from
the user.

the reality is that you haven't a clue how itunes operates, which
explains your obsessive hatred of it.

I can vouch for that. I have agents all over the world and they have
reported (sometimes with accompanying video) of your feats. I *love*
the one where you balance upside down with a lighted candle in one
hand and an iPhone in another operating iTunes, all the while holding

Just use SharePod freeware.
For me, it has far more functionality than iTunes ever did.

You can copy any MP3 song from any PC and vice versa from any iPod to
any PC. You can even copy from one iPod to another iPod.

Whatever you want to do, you just do it.

You're one of those Apologists, right?

So, you'll defend the iTunes infestation under any and all
circumstances.

That you can't even come close to doing what I can do doesn't
even seem to sink in so I'm going to give up on trying to
explain things to you.

You can't possibly understand a simple use model.

they can do fuckloads more, well beyond anything you can comprehend.

It's not strictly relevant to this thread, but on my 2k/XP machines I
have QuickTime Alternative which you can install and thus allow
Windows Media Player to play QT files. There are also Real
Alternative, for realaudio files, and a number of other open source
and/or free DirectX filters for other files types - on this XP
machine I have *.ape, *.flac, *.mov, *.ogg, *.shn all playable by WMP.
AFAICR, it was something of a business to setup WMP to use them, and
as I'm rather busy just now I haven't tried to do so yet on W7, but if
there is interest I could do some experiments to see if I can achieve
the same on W7 and report back in a seperate thread at some time in
the hopefully not-too-distant future.

Have you tried the free Media Player Classic with the free K-Lite
Codec packs?

Put those two together and you get a nice simple lightweight media player
that plays just about everything out there, if not more.

I don't play that much video so I wonder out loud (asking you) if
Quicktime Alternative or Windows Media Player or Real Alternative
has any value on top of Media Player Classic with K-Lite codecs?

Does it?
