Super Duper stopped automatically backing up my two external drives.

I have the latest version (2.8) and the latest Mac system software version.

I tried deleting the scehduled back-ups and recreating them and
restarting my Imac, but that didn't work.

I tried to ask on the Shirt Pocket Web site, but there's no way to
start a new thread, and the last published message there was from 2010.

Super Duper will still clone when I press the "Copy Now" button.

Lucky you that it ever worked. That never worked for me. SD required
that my user account be logged in and in the foreground (i.e. nobody
else in my family using the computer at the time) for it to work.

I contacted shirt pocket about that problem years ago and got a response
(within 5 minutes iirc) acknowleging the annoying limitation and that it
may be fixed "someday".

Odd, I see posts there made yesterday.

You need to be logged in to the shirt pocket forums to start a new
thread. Did you make an account and log in?

What is the output of this terminal command?:

crontab -l

I solved the problem.

I figured out that the problem was caused by one of the drives being
plugged into my U.S.B. hub instead of into my Mac.

Once I discovered this today, I theorized that if I plugged the
probematic external drive into my Mac instead of the U.S.B. hub, and
ran Super Duper, that the "Last Copy" time and date would again be
recorded as it should be (and as they have been for my other two La Cie
external drives) and that the copyting time would be much quicker
(about 35 minutes instead of four to five hours).

I was right about both of those things.

Oh, what a relief it is!

Thanks, Jolly and Kiraly.

Glad you figured it out. Thanks for reporting back.

that should make no difference whatsoever...

...unless you have a crappy hub.

you definitely have a crappy hub.

there should be no difference in speed for a copy with hub versus
computer, nor should the last copy date be different.

toss the hub and replace it with a quality one and you will be able to
plug hard drives (and other stuff) into it without any speed impact or
other issues.

keep in mind that if you have a usb 3 hard drive and a computer with
usb 3 ports, the hub must also be usb 3 without any usb 2 devices
plugged into it. otherwise, you'll be at usb 2 speeds, which will be
slower than the usb 3 port on the computer. that might be what is
happening with your setup. if that's the case, remove all usb 2 devices
from the usb 3 hub and put them on a separate usb 2 hub. if it's not
the case, replace the hub.

Thanks, Nospam.

I think my Imac has U.S.B. 2 because it's a mid-2010 model.

My new, seven-port hub is an Anker. I assume that it's a U.S.B. 3 hub,
and that the old hub was a 2 version, because it's old.

that imac is usb2, so the usb 3 stuff does not matter.

anker is typically a decent hub, but even if it is a usb 3 hub, it will
still run at usb 2 speeds because the computer is only usb 2.

in any event, you should not be seeing a speed difference with the hard
drive plugged into a hub or directly to the computer. if you do,
something else is wrong. one likely cause is the hub, because some hubs
are not the best quality and can cause issues.
