LibreOffice is fine. As is the Apple suite.

OTOH I have to exchange files with clients, suppliers and others (not to
mention in-office) and I've found over the years that attempting to use
LibreOffice or Apple's office suite (Pages, Numbers) leads to formatting
issues, loss of time screwing with "exporting" from the rebel formats to
MS Office formats (esp. with the inevitable last minute changes and
re-issues) that it is not worth my time to use them.

They're all fine apps. They just don't work in the real business world
where the de-facto standard is MS Office. Pity.

I tested Excel and Word (Office for Mac 2008) on 10.11 (SO's MBA) and
both seem to work fine.
