In the same way that we moved from block mode IBM terminals (send a 
whole screen of data, then validate it) to asynchronous serial terminals 
where you could validate on a field by field basis, we have now moved to 
AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML), which can do the same.

And there's been a lot of talk lately about virtual desktops.  The 
killer for that years ago was bandwidth, but we have that now.

We've come full circle, except now we have pretty graphics.

But it's got so complex on the way that very few if anybody at all can 
understand all the components in depth.
