Understood about the non-US customers.  I saw that in their FAQ. 

In my case, I like supporting Valve.  They have made a lot of games
available to me that I could not have purchased any other way.  I
don't think GOG does auto-patching, and even if it did it would
require me to keep yet another client running.  I prefer consolidating
everything with the other 130 or so games I have bought through Steam
and keeping only one client running in the background.  I ended up
buying the $5 copy of Witcher 1 on gog.com and installing it.
Installation (not the download, but just the installation of the
already downloaded content) felt kind of slow and wonky, as did the
file integrity check.  Nowhere near the polish of the Steam client.

The value of the advertising exposure CDProjekt gets just for being on
Steam will probably result in way higher profit from Steam than from
gog.com sales.  Valve has worked very hard to be the #1 distributor
and personally I think they deserve their cut considering what they've
done for PC gaming.

All that said, I'm glad there was financial incentive for you where
you live to buy through gog.com and that you got a deal you're happy
with.  Really not interested in a Steam vs. GOG debate.

As far as the game itself goes the reviews are looking great on it, so
I'm looking forward to playing.  Its downloading now but it might be a
couple of days before I get time to properly jump in and play around
with it.
