Precisely. It's quite possible that none of the DEC sources for their
major systems will ever be officially placed in the public domain.

It's often the libraries that are the killers.

Well, there's no demand, so I guess it must be the latter that
explains why I spend on average two months a year rewriting and
extending my versions of DEC O/S's. I find the exercise relaxing--it's
like fixing up and polishing an old car to make it roadworthy again. A
few days ago I went back to my half-completed rewrites of PATCH, DUMP
and SEARCH and took them to the next stage of completion. These were
in fact re-rewrites! Today finished off the first version of a library
module for stand-alone apps to decode DCL-style commands. At present
I'm staring into space trying, yet again, to solve an old problem: how
do you rewrite MACRO and LINK in a high-level language and still find
enough space for the symbol tables while remaining compatible with the
smaller systems and I think I've finally made a choice. 

What better way could I possibly find to occupy my time?
