Hi, after several unsuccessful tries, I am clueless. My Mega STE worked flawlessly with his ST157N, but it's one of the smallest HD you can find (no more space now for anything). So I tried it with a IBM DORS 32160 (SCA version, but I used an adapter to SCSI-50pin). I didn't hear even the HD drive/motor (may be this drive was already dead). Now I buyed a IBM 0662 drive (1.0 GB SCSI, 50pin). Because this beast have the maximum of jumper for configuration you can imagine, I made an excerpt from the manual and upload it to my site. You can take a look at it here: http://www.z80.eu/images/ibm0662.png The red jumpers are my assumption what is necessary. For the Mega STE, some told me, I should NOT use "active termination". For classic ST's, this would be different (e.g. for MegaFile's). At the moment, it does not work, HDDriver (or CBHD or AHDI 6) does not recognize any drive except my also external connected Syquest 555 drive. I am not aware of the sense of "Disable UNIT attention" here, also of the jumper "Disable T.I.Sync Negotiations". Also, I am not sure about "SCSI bus termination power" and the additional "Termination Power enable" jumper (which should be related with the "Enable Active Termination" jumper. Any help (Mega STE specific) ? Regards Peter

This drive, like some other IBM drives, might require the computer to have a SCSI ID (initiator identification). If this is the case you can only use it with the full-featured SCSI bus of a TT or Falcon or with a LINK96/97 host adapter. These are the only host adapters for the ST/STE which support initiator identification (SCSI ID 7). > I am not aware of the sense of "Disable UNIT attention" here, also of > the jumper "Disable T.I.Sync Negotiations". You should disable both. Enabling unit attention can prevent the Atari from booting from a drive. The synchroneous transfer negotiation is not supported by ACSI. Only with a TT or Falcon and a driver with support for SCSI messages (like HDDRIVER and maybe CBHD) it can be enabled, even though you would not be able to profit from it with the Atari. But anyway, provided your drive is not broken the lack of initiator identification with ACSI ist most likely the problem. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Uwe Seimet http://www.linkbylink.net/

As I had texactly this drive inside my TT030, I can confirm it does require the computer to have an SCSI ID. It did not boot in the TT030 with original ROM, one has to use a patched ROM, I used tp306v20.lzh and tospatch.ttp, both which can be found on <http://markusheiden.de/index.php/atari/tospatch.html> These were the two modifications necessary: ;******************************************************************************* ;* MH: ;* Nur CRC-Check ausschalten.

May be no IBM drive can be used with a Mega STE and the build-in ASCI controller. I have only set "disable parity" and "autostart", no SCSI-ID jumper set (that should result in a SCSI-ID = 0). The drive is not recognized. Why did I buyed an IBM HD ? Because I read the recommendations at http://atari.mnx2010.nl/helpdesk/scsi/scsi.htm ... This page is not related to a Mega STE, may be the list of "compatible" drives is totally wrong :-( Regards Peter

On the other hand, as far as TT and Falcon are concerned such a list is quite useless because you can use any SCSI-2/3 drive (except for the differential drives, which have a special signal handling) with them, i.e. there is no need for such a compatibility list. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Uwe Seimet http://www.linkbylink.net/

Dear Peter, Ask B & C ComputerVisions About This! The Mega STe Is Finicky About Hard Drives! I Dont Believe It Will Do SCSI 2 Internally! Maybe Externally With Another Hard Drive! I Asked B & C About This Before! I Prefer Another Host Adapter Than Atari! Also, I had no problems with a Quantum LPS270S in my TT030. HTH, Thorsten

Hi Peter
I've had great success with Seagate drives,
specifically ST51080N. Loads of room and really quick.
