Also, it is very often the case, that you find  a venue with a free 
weekend slot, and it stays in that slot year after year. I used to help 
organise a major event, and it stayed in the same weekend because other 
events occur for the other weekends and can't be moved. We used to block 
book 2-3 years ahead to make sure we had a venue. Booking the same weekend 
can also be cheaper, especially if reserving a 2nd 3 rd year.

Finding venues, and free weekends, seems to have become a nightmare in the 
last few years.
