I try to have nothing to do with Strong apps, so I would
much rather not.

I would agree that far too often terms used by software
writers can mean one thing in one context, but something
quite different in another.

But not here.

*compact = remove blank sectors on a disc, by moving the
data.

Compact in Pluto means exactly the same, remove blank
sections of an articles file.

FWIW, I have never compressed articles in Pluto - what would
be the point these days, I never find myself using more than
about 35% of a hard discs available space - but I always
repair / compact Pluto at the end of the day.

Apart from ensuring that all the indexes are fine and
keeping everything neat and tidy, it is the only way to
empty the bin properly.
