That was long ago, I don't remember the details. I think the calling code could be swapped out if needed, in the last version I saw. Version 6 or 7. There was a much earlier version, I think with with .com binaries, then they changed to .exe and overlays disappeared, and then they came back. And there were tuning variables as to the size of the ram assigned to overlays vs the total size of the overlay file, determining how aggressive the algorithm was.
