"religions" are what occur when feeble human minds desperately need a 
way to explain otherwise random events as having some meaning.

   Most of the tribe wasn't killed by a random lightning strike, 
   instead it was god that killed the tribe....

Plus, once "relegious leaders" realize that they can use "god" to 
control the behavior of others it rapidly grows into an entire set of 
rules for everyone to obey.
