I bought a scan converter off ebay for about £30 UKP (I guess about $50 USD).
It works great for me. (I am in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and we
use the PAL television system here).

You would probably get even better results that I do on your NTSC set.

There is a cable between the laptop and the scan converter, but this is
no big deal for me. You can always duck tape the scan converter to the back
of the TV set, so the rest of the cabling is not seen.

I definitely recommend these.
