Your problem is likely with the shared library search paths.
Different distributions put them in different places.  It's a real pain,
and the reason why docker is getting more popular.

According to
http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/notes/rpath.html

there is a way to get around this by encoding the rpath in your
application, but I cannot vouch for it personally.
