If you don't know it yet, contextlib.contextmanager offers a highlevel 
alternative:

>>> @contextmanager
... def goodbye(obj):
...     try:
...             yield obj
...     finally:
...             print("goodbye", obj.name)
...
>>> with goodbye(Foo()) as foo:
...     print("hello", foo.name)
...
hello Steve
goodbye Steve
