You need to make a subclass of CaseInsensitiveDict, implement the 
__missing__(key) method, and override the __init__() method to take the factory 
function as an argument instead of data. defaultdict is just a subclass of dict 
that does this.


class CaseInsensitiveDictDef(CaseInsensitiveDict):
     def __init__(self, default_factory):
         super(CaseInsensitiveDictDef, self).__init__()
         self.default_factory = default_factory

     def __missing__(self, key):
         return self.default_factory()
