The primary technique is to use library code even if somewhat awkward.
That way you have an expert author, and many eyes looking for bugs. It
is much harder to find bugs involving threads since they are not as
deterministic as ordinary bugs.  Even if you have single stepped every
instruction through all possible branchings, there can still be bugs
hiding.
