Huh, is "console app" different from a server/daemon?  I'm just 
wondering because I wasn't aware Tomcat had any other operating modes 
besides "daemon."

Yes, by "app" I assumed the OP meant desktop application or web app 
(application).  Generic applications are "programs" to me, unless 
they're specifically something else (daemon, kernel module, desktop app, 
library, etc.)
