Thank you for the reply.  At this point I am fine with not mixing element 
types and I understand that I will need Objects if I want to do that. On 
the other hand, there seem to be two approaches that I can take to 
doing the primitive arrays of different types, subclassing is one option. 
My original post outlines the troubles I had when I took this approach 
at first, and I would love it if you had a solution to my Function 
abstraction that allowed for this sort of subclassing.

Otherwise, I will post more information later today, I hope, that will 
clarify my attempts thus far.
