Red-black-trees are usually faster if you have about the same number of insertions vs. inserts and deletes. If you look up mostly an AVL-tree is faster. And if the map is large enough that it doesn't fit into cache and you have mostly cache misses while accessing the nodes an AVL-tree is always faster since the nodes can be reached with shorter paths. STL's map is usually implemented as a red-black-tree. I've developed a similar C++20 container with an AVL-tree.
