| > You're hanging around in a Windows programming | > group telling people that they're using the wrong | > tool because they won't be able to use it for | > WinPhone apps! | | LOL.. That's not what I said, but you know that. All I said was that | learning VB.NET gave the OP options to do so if they desired. Not that | they had to, or that they even should. | Your general theme has been that VB6 is dead, we'll be left "stuck in the Win32 world", and that .Net provides "choices and options". But Metro is not an option. It's an entirely different thing. This is a Windows programming group. We want to be in the Win32 world. I don't care about Metro. I doubt that most people here care about it. Why should they? It's the system for a tablet and phone that have little chance of survival (Microsoft is so desperate they're already paying people to write WinPhone software); it's a sandboxed trinket-builder; and one needs Microsoft's permission to distribute the software, which can only be installed through their store.. and they get a 30% cut, as I understand it. *Metro _really_ has nothing to do with Windows programming*. That's made even more obvious in Microsoft's attempt to graft it onto Windows and wrap the shell in it. Metro-on-PC simply has no relevance. I guess I *might* be tempted to beat you to writing the Tell-Me-When-I'm-Out-Of-Toilet-Paper WinPhone8 app, if I thought there were any chance at all of making money on it... And if I had a Windows phone... And... ...But from what I've read, even on iPhone very few people are making money... despite that AppleSeeds generally pay full retail. In any case, writing for WinPhone would be like writing for Android, in the sense that I might get curious if I bought such a phone, but it would have no bearing on or relationship to my interest in Windows software. I think you're conflating your own analysis with your business hopes and with Microsoft's marketing. It's not unusual that people want to believe in what might benefit them, but to believe Microsoft marketing makes no sense. More often than not their marketing makes no sense. Why are they opening a Microsoft store to middleman crippled Metro trinkets? Because they saw Steve Jobs get away with it. If it doesn't work, they'll drop the whole thing quicker than a SPOT watch. (They might even drop it quicker than they dropped the Kin cellphone. :)

Tom Shelton presented the following explanation : > Hey dummy - metro is windows software. Sorry, you just have a very narrow > interpretation of reality. LOL! Whoops, there goes the old BS meter! Call it what you want. It's *not* Windows. Metro is to Windows what VFred is to VB. | It's *not* Windows. | It's interesting that MS is foisting Metro on Windows 8 for no tenable reason, while at the same time Windows RT is specifically not being called Windows 8 RT. On the one hand they want everyone to accept WinRT and Metro as Windows, but on the other hand, they don't because they don't want tablet buyers to be upset that they can't install Windows software. Much of the media hasn't even noticed that distinction, so it looks like there probably will be people who are upset that their tablet can't do much of anything beyond logging into MS online services.

Anyone who buys a Tablet (or indeed anything else) that runs anything produced by Micro$oft is off his trolley! Mike
