The Microsoft Entra Connect synchronization services (Microsoft Entra Connect Sync) is a main component of Microsoft Entra Connect. It takes care of all the operations that are related to synchronize identity data between your on-premises environment and Microsoft Entra ID. Microsoft Entra Connect Sync is the successor of DirSync and Azure AD Sync.

This topic is the home for Microsoft Entra Connect Sync (also called sync engine) and lists links to all other topics related to it. For links to Microsoft Entra Connect, see Integrating your on-premises identities with Microsoft Entra ID.

The sync service consists of two components, the on-premises Microsoft Entra Connect Sync component and the service side in Microsoft Entra ID called Microsoft Entra Connect Sync service.

Microsoft Entra Connect cloud sync is a new offering from Microsoft designed to meet and accomplish your hybrid identity goals for synchronization of users, groups, and contacts to Microsoft Entra ID. It accomplishes this by using the Microsoft Entra cloud provisioning agent instead of the Microsoft Entra Connect application. Microsoft Entra Connect cloud sync is replacing Microsoft Entra Connect Sync, which will be retired after cloud sync has full functional parity with Microsoft Entra Connect Sync. The remainder of this article is about Microsoft Entra Connect Sync, but we encourage customers to review the features and advantages of cloud sync before deploying AADConnect sync.

The Garmin Connect app needs to run in the background to keep your Garmin device connected with key features such as smart notifications and weather information. This also allows background data syncing to send data from your device to your Garmin Connect account.

So none of our devices are prompting users to sync their passwords after they change it via IdP. I checked the Jamf Connect configuration profile and it looks to have all the settings correct. NetworkCheck is set to 15 and we have the Jamf Connect notification profile enabled under Settings>Computer Management>Security.

EDIT - After messing around on my device right after posting this I have noticed that the Jamf Connect icon is not in my menu bar. If i launch it and click Connect it then prompts me to sync the password. Is there a way that I can have this app launch on boot and have it automatically logged into?

Also, even if the JC is running, there will probably be a delay on seeing the prompt after changing your password at the IdP. By default, JC only checks ever 60 minutes to see if the passwords are in sync. You can chance the frequency by setting this preference key:

Hi, I've been trying to deploy a 1Password Connect Sync instance via Portainer on Open Media Vault using the docker-compose.yml file provided on the official docs. However, connect-sync seems to silently fail in creating a database.

then your device might be misaligned with the GC account. Follow the instructions from the thread Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing to resolve the issue.

I do not think so. Syncing will simply transfer all data marked not synced yet, but it won't redo transfers already done previously. If the numbers shown on your watch do not match the values in the GC account, consider contacting your local support. You can also try turning off and restarting the watch, and syncing again. Most likely it won't help with the past issue, but could prevent repeating it again.

The steps that I have done today are syncing but I am missing the steps that I did late last night. How do I get these back? I would not have left myself at 97% of step goal when I am only a few days away from hitting the target of getting this badge!

The syncing has several levels. The HR and steps are being transferred to the watch continually, without doing the full sync, and without syncing to the server, storing the data to you GC account. You have to explicitly start the sync on the app, and waiting till the white circle around the watch symbol at the top closes, and turns green. If it did not happen, the sync was not sucessful, and data was not transferred to the server, and you have to repeat it, or find out, why the sync did not work. And if not possbile syncing over BT, then syncing over USB to the computer with Garmin Express.

Can anyone advice on this please....my Garmin watch syncs to my phone perfectly but when syncing to my Vitality Health App is isn't syncing workouts, just steps. I've re-installed and check most recent versions are installed but no joy

I have a handful of computers that keep prompting the user that their Azure password does not match their local password after they sign in. The strange thing is, no one changed their password. One of the people just started and created their local account a couple weeks ago. Now she gets constant pop-up messages in the top right corner asking her to sync her password. And it's not just one pop-up, it could be five to ten pop-ups in succession.

I use a .local domain but I use Office 35. I would like to be able to sync passwords so that my users only need to remember one password and it gets updated for both local domain login and online login.

I tried using the new Azure AD Cloud sync but I don't see a way to connect and match the users since I use a .local domain. I already have my users in Azure Active Directory and when I tried to do a provision with the cloud sync to see if it would detect the existing user it created a new one with a .onmicrosoft.com user principle name and not the domain.com name. I looked more closely at the documentation and it looks like you can't use cloud sync if you are using .local on your domain.

Next, I set up a server to run Azure AD connect sync and went through a video to set it because I saw some examples online showing you could do this. However, just before I finished the setup I saw on the video the provisioning using that method also created a .onmicrosoft.com user and not a .com one.

So I am trying to figure out if there is a way to sync users from my .local internal domain to my Azure Active Directory users so that I can use Single Sign On and give my users one password for both local an online.

As others have stated, it's all about the UPN. If the UPN matches your Azure AD tenancy you are golden. For example, company.local and company.com. Assuming your azure tenancy is company.com, either change UPN of Azure AD sync'ed resources to company.com or you can leave them alone assuming they don't need to work with anything internet facing. Those will get onmicrosoft labels in Azure.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync a .local domain with Azure Active Directory, as .local is reserved for private network usage and not suitable for public-facing services like Azure Active Directory.

In your case, you can create a new domain, such as example.com, and configure it as the primary domain in Azure Active Directory. Then, you can use Azure AD Connect to sync the users from your .local domain to Azure Active Directory, using the new example.com domain for the user principal names.

Please note that the process of setting up a new domain and synchronizing users can be complex, and it is recommended to seek the help of a qualified IT consulting company Opens a new window to ensure a successful setup.

What it appears I am seeing here is I can go to Active Directory Domains and Trusts and add an alternative UPN. Then I can go in to the users account and change their new UPN to the .com. That will then allow me to sync with AD connect.

It has been quite some time since I've had to deal with this situation (and the sync tool program has gone through a couple of revisions since then), but to the best of my recollection if 'in cloud' users already exist with the same username as the AD UPN you will have sync conflicts. Perhaps the newer sync software deals with this better than it did several years ago and I don't remember the exact details, but I do remember that it was a PITA to correct problems that occurred once syncing started.

"When you install Azure AD Connect and you start synchronizing, the Azure AD sync service (in Azure AD) does a check on every new object and tries to find an existing object to match. There are three attributes used for this process: userPrincipalName, proxyAddresses, and sourceAnchor/immutableID. A match on userPrincipalName or proxyAddresses is known as a soft match. A match on sourceAnchor is known as hard match. For the proxyAddresses attribute only the value with SMTP:, that is the primary email address, is used for the evaluation.

Hi, is there any way to synchronize extensionAttribute from onprem AD to Azure AD? I can sync these attributes for "user" or "group". But I can't do it for computer(device). See screenshot below. Thanks

Thanks Spindle8551, I believe your solution works. Unfortunately this is an "Azure only" solution.

I sync from onprem AD via Azure AD Connect to Azure thousands of computers from different AD domains. I have 12 Azure AD Connect connectors to 12 onprem AD's.

Not all IT admins follow the computer naming convention and I have a problem in Azure to recognize which onprem AD computers are syncing from which AD.

The idea was that I set computer extensionAttribute1 in onprem AD (e.g. Italy-site, Germany-site, Korea-site....) and then I can create dynamic groups in Azure accordingly, set Conditional Access and so on.

Unfortunately as I can see, it is not possible to synchronize computer/device ExtensionAttributes to Azure.

Very briefly - I am not able to find out in Azure from which onprem AD the computer syncs to Azure.
