Easy Display Manager is a program that displays the changed setting on the screen when a setting is changed by pressing the shortcut keys, and enables changing the display modes. Easy Display manager has three primary functions: To display information related to the function keys, to set up hotkeys that control various features such as rotation and resolution, and to adjust the brightness using the function keys. For these features to work, Easy Display Manager must be installed and running.

I wanted to ask, if there is any environment I could use for login only which displays different Display Managers as separate icons, so that I only press one button (the icon of the manager) and enter my password. I really don't like to have to use touch pad to change Display Manager

Dell Display Manager (DDM) enhances everyday productivity through comprehensive management tools giving you optimal front of screen experience, efficient display management, and effortless multitasking.

The Display menu provides a single window to customize display related settings of the monitor such as resolution, refresh rate, orientation, and Smart HDR.

See the following table for the various commands and a description with an associated example of the usage. (The example uses /Number: Where the Number can be 1, 2, 3 and so on.) It replaces it with the enumerated display number of the targeted clients. You can append the output of all these commands into a single log.

But it wasn't so easy. I upgraded Winodws 7 Family x64 to Windows 10 x64 on the original hard drive disk. I used the BIOS Update tool from Samsung but it gave me a beautiful BSoD everytime ! Like it's said in the first post of this discussion. So i tried every solution on this post and even more, until only remain one last solution : to launch it from a 32bit Windows version. I got my good old Windows 7 SP1 x86 cd and here we go ! Windows 7 installation worked perfectly and here I am finally on Windows7's desktop. I launch the BIOS Update file "ITEM_20130311_879_WIN_07PQ.exe". And no BSoD !!! Installation had completed ! After a reboot I check the BIOS Version... "07PQ", it really worked !

If you switch often the settings of your display or is hard for you to find these options in Control Panel, then this tool will save your time. From this application, you can manage all important settings related to your monitor, for example, to choose the resolution. Other additional functions of this tool include rotation, resolution, brightness level and more.

I suppose this method is working for most of the people. But for me it doesn't seem to work. I tried to everything as you said. Maybe because i am using an external keyboard to my np150. The only way i can change the brightness is the slider inside the power options. I also tried to install the easy display manager version 3.0.3.11, it got installed but never run.

I have tried uninstalling the monitor and restarting. Updating all the graphics drivers. Disabling/Enabling the generic PnP monitor in device manager. Changed all of the power settings. The monitor still stays at what seems to be 100% brightness.

I recently updated W10 to anniversary edition and ran into this issue yet again. I have no idea how I was able to resolve it last time. I attempted to uninstall, and reinstall all drivers from Samsung over again, in various orders, running the Win10 Brightness Control Patch each time provided by Samsung Update, but in each case, never yielded results. I should also note that I've also disabled adaptive brightness in display options and also my power options plan. This was required the first time I got this working so I made sure those settings were changed back after the update reverted them.

I have a similar model NP680Z5E-X03US. Brightness control is completely unavailable using any version of either the Intel or Radeon display drivers. Neither keyboard control, system settings, display control, nor any other kind of brightness control will work.

For the Fn + F5 (its F5 on my computer, might be different on yours) to change the brightness you have to have the Samsung "Easy Display Manager" installed. Check to see that the program is still installed. If its not installed goto the Samsung website look up the model of your computer and it will display all the software dowloads that were pre-installed on your model of PC, if you need to you can download the "Easy display manager" again, once installed reboot you system and Fn + F5 should work again.

I am not sure I fixed everything, but I am finally able to adjust my brightness. I used my model number, NP88OZ5E and went to the Samsung website. I downloaded SW update and used it to download a myriad of new drivers and updates. It took quite a while. I still can't use my Fn keys to adjust brightness (I am missing that "easy display manager" program you referred to and I can't figure out how to find it, though I looked), but it works now when I use the control panel to adjust brightness now.

I have a Samsung N210 Plus laptop which developed the same problem you were having,no brightness control. This happened a few years ago. The LCD display was on full brightness all of the time, which made using it uncomfotable on my eyes. This appears to be an issue with Samsung. The problem started just after the guarantee had expired. I also tried all different ways to sort the problem out, nothing worked. I contacted Samsung and spent over half an hour on the telephone, with a technician. We got the brightness control working. Next time I switched on the laptop it had gone back to full brightness with no conrol. I stopped using the laptop until I found out about f.lux. This program auto adjusts the brightness, you can also manually adjust the brightness with ( Alt-PageUp or Alt-Page Down).

You don't actually need any window manager or display manager. All you need to do is open your initial window with the same geometry as the root window. I suppose you could even draw directly into the root window if you wanted.

As for mplayer, it accepts the -geometry flag, so you can use something like mplayer -geometry 640x480+20+20 to display the mplayer window 20 pixels from the top 20 pixels from the left and with a size of 640x480 pixels.

You probably meant window manager. Display manages are KDM, GDM and the like. Windoe managers, to name, GNOME, Xfce, KDE, ratpoison, fvwm, twm, blackbox are a few. ratpoison gives full screen to the application that is in the foreground but demands heavy keyboard interaction (hence the name ratpoison) and no mouse interaction at all.

As commented, you should not need a window manager to achieve that. You could have your python GUI app get command-line parameters for setting its window geometry and also call fullscreen mplayer with the -geometry parameter. That should fill the screen as expected, without any window decorations.

It boots debian, and from inittab I auto-login the user that runs the display. That user's .profile starts X, which runs .xinitrc, which starts my python app that runs as a network server in front of mplayer (running mplayer in -slave mode).

My python app does not have a GUI element - only mplayer runs on the X display. But in your case, it should be no different. As I mentioned in a comment to another answer, you may want to look into how you can reparent mplayer's window to give you greater control over its placement and/or movement/size.
