In an analysis by Vulture, Halle Keifer expressed a confused perspective on the video, asking "do people really want to see Fifth Harmony literally dancing in the rubble of a war-ravaged city?" Keifer noted that the abrupt dance routines distracted from the main story line of the video.[44] Carl Williott from Idolator felt that the video was "a spiritual sequel" to the group's "similarly utilitarian "Work from Home" (2016) construction site visual."[45] Mike Neid, from the same website as Williott, said that the video provided "sexy choreography and a powerful message of girl power" in an analysis from his "should have been bigger" category.[22] Kelly Lawler of USA Today noted the video's nods to popular dystopian films including The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games. She also called the dancing "impeccable" and commended the group's emotional power in the vocals and the solid theme in the song.[46] As of July 2020, the video has surpassed 205 million views.

The group released their debut single "Miss Movin' On", preceding their extended play Better Together. In 2015, The group released their debut studio album Reflection, which was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[2] It spawned the singles "Boss", "Sledgehammer" and "Worth It"; the latter of which was certified triple platinum by RIAA, and reached the top ten in thirteen countries. In 2016, the group released "Work from Home", the lead single from their second album 7/27, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100,[3] making it the first top five single by a girl group in a decade on that chart.[4] They released their self-titled third album in 2017. The group went on indefinite hiatus in March 2018, allowing its members to pursue solo projects.[5]

In 2012, Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui auditioned as solo contestants on the second season of the American televised singing competition The X Factor. The latter four failed to progress in the "Teens" category, with Brooke failing to enter the "Young Adults" category. However, they were later brought back and put together to form a five-piece girl group at The Fillmore, in Miami, Florida on July 27, thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. Judges Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears and Simon Cowell helped form the group.[15] For their qualifying song at the "judges' houses", and their first song as a group, the girls sang an acoustic version of "Impossible" by Shontelle.[16] Afterwards, Marc Anthony called the performance "unbelievable" with Cowell sharing similar sentiments saying that they were "clearly one great group". Initially, the group's name was "Lylas" (an acronym for Love You Like a Sister), but another group called "The Lylas" (which consists of four of Bruno Mars' sisters) claimed that the show stole their name.[17] Thereafter, Lylas changed their name to 1432 (a colloquial term for I Love You Too), which was announced on the first live show on October 31, during which 1432 performed "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift. Cowell and Reid were critical of the new name, and Cowell suggested that the group be renamed again. During the first live results show on November 1, 1432 performed "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato in a sing-off with three-piece girl group Sister C. Cowell decided to send 1432 through to the Top 12 and announced that they would be renamed via the viewers online. The name chosen by the public was announced: "Fifth Harmony".[18]

The group made their first appearance since Cabello's departure at the 43rd People's Choice Awards on January 17, 2017. There, they performed an edited version of "Work from Home", went on to win the award for Favorite Group for the second consecutive year.[70] On May 29, 2017, the group announced their new single, "Down", featuring guest vocals from rapper Gucci Mane. The song was released on June 2, 2017, and peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100.[71] On July 24, 2017, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the group announced that their third studio album would be titled Fifth Harmony. The album was released on August 25, 2017, and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200.[72] The girls performed on the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, where they started with the promotional single "Angel", before transitioning to "Down" featuring Mane. On August 9, they announced that they would embark on their third and final official concert tour in support of the album. The group released the second single from the album, titled "He Like That". The music video for the song was released on August 25, 2017, and as a single to radio on September 19, 2017.[73] The group performed their single from the album for Good Morning America and The Late Late Show with James Corden.[74][73][75]

"Fifth Harmony were also inheriting the low retention rate of girl groups in American popular music, which has long been driven by the misogynistic belief that multiple women couldn't function on a collaborative level without falling out with one another in a fight for the spotlight. It wasn't a fair hand to have been dealt, but it gave them something to prove. After spending their formative teenage years being compared to one another while filling in pre-shaped pop molds, Fifth Harmony looked inward on their third and subsequently final album Fifth Harmony and restored the confidence in their voices that had been hidden beneath years of being kept quiet".[121]

In that way, Fifth Harmony is beginning to closely resemble a Spice Girls for the 21st century. The record-shattering girl band ushered in an era of girl power in the late '90s with their catchy hooks and empowering lyrics. The music captured the imaginations of millions of young people around the world who wanted powerful female role models. Now on the back of their biggest hit ever, "Worth It," Fifth Harmony is on their way to reimagining that scenario for the 21st century. And it's time they got the recognition they deserve.

Again and again, they work to give young girls confidence in themselves. "Women are often made to feel like they have to be a certain type of girl, but you can be anything you want to be," Jauregui told Seventeen. Their career is seeking to prove that's the case.

In recent years, Hollywood has been providing us with a number of strong female characters as main or leading characters that women can feel proud to call their idols. With the help of young adult novels and record-breaking numbers at the box office, ladies have been unstoppable in battles on the big-screen, both dystopian and otherworldly. And that's why it's no surprise to see that the five-girl group, Fifth Harmony, modeled the "That's My Girl" music video after our favorite movie heroines. Considering the song's empowering lyrics, the fact that the group chose to make everything from the music video's set design to their choreography a reflection of confidence and badassery is everything. And the fact that they gave it some dystopian franchise flavor only makes me love this song and music video even more.

When speaking of dystopian worlds and strong female characters, one of the first to come to mind has to be Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence). Fifth Harmony was sure to throw in some Hunger Games references in the form of the green jacket Normani is seen wearing and the red flags that may give fans some serious flashbacks to the reign of the Capitol. These girls could very well be overthrowing the Capitol.

No, this is not a shot of Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. But, from the looks of this actor's short blonde hair, goggles, and futuristic attire, it could very well be a young Imperator Furiosa. Now add to that the desert setting, the broken down cars, and even the outfits the girls are wearing. With Fifth Harmony looking like the Five Wives, this music video is basically Mad Max fanfiction.

The silver block font that reveals the title of the music video is looking awfully similar to the title screen and font used in the Maze Runner films. Teresa (played by Kaya Scodelario) and Brenda (played by Rosa Salazar) bring the female strength to the film franchise, and Fifth Harmony alludes to those heroes in the music video via both the landscape they're surviving in (with the indoor shots featuring the bricks of the building) and the outfits the girls wore (when Fifth Harmony is seen dancing in their black leather jackets).

The main outfits the girls wear can be compared to those in Mad Max: Fury Road. However, if I had to compare their costumes to that of one female heroine, it would be Rey. Thanks to the white cloth costumes, the top of the girl's outfits and the material the outfits are made of resemble Rey's. Plus, Rey could totally get those dance moves down.

Fifth Harmony wants to remind women that they are strong enough to overcome their sadness and move on. At the same time, Fifth Harmony tells women that they should get independent and keep moving forward. Throughout the chorus of the song and towards the end, Fifth Harmony sings out "That's my girl... That's my girl..." to the listener. Usually, this expression is used when someone is proud of what has been accomplished by their daughter or less often, by their one's girlfriend. And most of the time, women get happy when someone says this, am I right? Pretty much, Fifth Harmony takes this expression in their song in order to express their pride and praise to all the women in the world.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, Right down Santa Claus lane He's got a bag that's filled with toys For boys and girls again Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, Oh what a beautiful sight So jump in bed and cover your head 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Fifth Harmony is an American girl group formed on the US version of The X Factor in 2012. The members are Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, Normani, and Camila Cabello. Cabello left the group in December 2016, while the remaining members announced that they were taking a break in 2018 to go after their own career.
