(Rambling thoughts follow...)

But I think Mack's take on what I wrote was an implication that I was
asserting that only Arnold could have answered your question.  He (Mack)
was then asserting that there also exist other people who are capable of
answering it - and, thus, that it was sensible to post it to help-gawk
(even if and even though Arnold would not see it).

This asserting is true and valid, but (IMHO) misses the point - at least
the point I (Kenny) was trying to make.  Which is that I see Usenet more as
a personal, one-to-one conversation (initially setup and enabled by the
medium [*]`) rather than as a public bulletin board (in the physical sense
of an actual bulletin board - not in the computer sense of a "BBS").

[*] Which, in fact, acts sort of as a dating service: "We got you two
together; what you do now is on you".
