Most distributions have sites with precompiled packages, which means you
do not have to go through the trouble of recompiling.

There is also a site called pkgs.org which maintains precompiled
packages for a large number of distributions, including previous
releases. I could find a precompiled package there:

https://centos.pkgs.org/7/centos-x86_64/gnuplot-4.6.2-3.el7.x86_64.rpm.html

kind regards
Franz
