When I first started using FileMaker, just flailing around trying to learn, I created a layout that looks like an ordinary check register in browse mode. Each record takes two lines and the pairs of lines are abutted together. Since then, I've created one or two others but most of the time I end up with something that displays a single record at a time. My memory is that there is some fine relationship between the bottom of a record in the layout and the dividing line between the body and the footer. It also probably has something to do with the way I hold my mouth. Any pointers will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'm still using FileMaker Pro 8.0v3 on a G5 running 10.5.8. Charlie -- Nobody in this country got rich on his own. You built a factory--good. But you moved your goods on roads we all paid for. You hired workers we all paid to educate. So keep a big hunk of the money from your factory. But take a hunk and pay it forward. Elizabeth Warren (paraphrased)

It's the second button from the right in layout mode. Martin

As you might have seen, Helpful Harry pointed to the simple step in building my layout that I had overlooked. All is well now. Charlie -- Nobody in this country got rich on his own. The height of the Body Part is how much window space the record will use in normal Browses Mode. BUT you can also change it in Browse Mode to display the records of the current Found Set as a "List" via View Menu (from memory since I can't open FileMaker at the moment) or via a Script command. The Layout will remember the View setting when closing the file. Of course the height of the Body Part of the Layout needs to be relatively thin for it to be of an use. There's not a lot of point in having a full screen Layout viewed as a List (except perhaps if you've hidden the side toolbar, then you can use the window's scroll bars to go up and down the records.) Helpful Harry :o)

Another way is to use a Relationship and Portal to display multiple records. As with a lot of things, it depends on what you're trying to achieve and what's best for your particular database and users. Helpful Harry :o)

However, I'm a software engineer, so I like the software objects that I create to be robust. Charlie -- Nobody in this country got rich on his own. You built a factory--good.
