Aesop was a slave who had back pain which was made worse everytime he lifted a bag of bread. So when someone told him to lift a bag of bread and he did it, was Aesop slapping the other person or the other person slapping Aesop? We can use his back pain as a meter to determine that. You can similarly determine when you tell me to do something and I do it, is it me slapping you or you slapping me.

Suppose we are playing AD&D and each of our characters is a woman in a breast slaps game. If when event A happens, the pain of my character increases, then my character has taken a slap. If when event B happens, the pain of your character increases, then your character has taken a slap. If the pain of my character hasn't increased sufficiently in an amount of time, it means she may have looked for a way out.

Without a meter, it is impossible to determine who slaps who. For example, if Aesop did not have back pain but enjoyed lifting bags of bread, then telling him to lift a bag of bread would not be slapping him but doing him a favor.
