Automatic mounting can be accomplished by any software
that is written for the purpose.

What I find "silly" (actually insidious) is the trend
toward a single daemon that constantly "listens" not
just for plug-in events but for all system events.

A single point of control has great potential for
abuse, as we see with Microsoft.
