No. openvpn is a very common routine for VPN service, but not the only one.

You have a paid account at purevpn which offers openvpn as one choice of
a mode of its operation/use.

I have a free account at protonvpn which I use to experiment w/ openvpn.
I don't think proton offers alternatives other than openvpn.
(Reported to be testing wireguard.)

purevpn doesn't have very good instructions for linux, but it has a
really lot of them as well as a .deb package. protonvpn doesn't have
many instructions nor a .deb package, but they have a python script and
their instructions and python script work.

I understand.

In this case, I believe the pure problem is that they have a better
solution for Win. Their linux info is haphazard and very old/ out-dated.

I understand the concept.

You can copy and paste in the command line.

The command line also has a history, so you can arrow key up to some
previous command and tweak/change it.
