Today I think I'll do the proton .py script again and this time copy the 
console output from the script.  I think one can rig a vpn w/o using any 
script or .deb at all, just using the openvpn and NM & nm-gnome pieces 
and put in the configuration needs for your purevpn provider by hand and 
import their ovpn files 'individually', depending on how many you need.

in the case of my free protonvpn, there are only a few servers I have 
free access to, so it is no big deal to do them individually for me.

There's a guy who is a free VPN 'nut' whose msg/s I might dig up and 
read to see if there is any useful configuration wheat in all his chaff.
