It looks as though something went wrong during the installation. I have a complete clone backup so I plan to re-partition and reinstall. Thanks for your support everyone. It is always welcome. As for PClinuxOS, I have employed it before but it uses KDE Plasma 5. I left Mageia when it adopted Plasma 5 before it waas really ready. It cost me so much lost time when I could ill-afford it so I jumped ship to Mint because I had fallen in love with Cinnamon. The only thing I miss though is the ability to switch my desktop icons from left to right and automatically keep them in alphabetical order.
