#28015 — chromium

FromWilliam Unruh <unruh@invalid.ca>

Message-ID<10j4413$2sku1$2@dont-email.me>
I would like to switch from chrome to chromium for my browser. However
there is a huge hrdle-- namely chromium does not allow me to save
passwords, etc.If I transfer my chrome passwords to chromium, the
passwords are there (eg password Manager shows them all). But if I
reboot, nothing is there.
/etc/pam.d/sddm-autologin:-session optional pam_kwallet5.so auto_start
/etc/pam.d/sddm:-auth optional pam_kwallet5.so
/etc/pam.d/sddm:-auth optional pam_kwallet.so
/etc/pam.d/sddm:-session optional pam_kwallet5.so auto_start
/etc/pam.d/sddm:-session optional pam_kwallet.so auto_start

I tried putting in .config/chromium-flags.conf in my home directory with
--password-store=kwallet5

, but that did not help.

s there any help available?

I didn't have a Mageia or chromium up, so I booted a live MX and
installed chromium there and was able to enable the setting to ask for
password, which was NOT the default.

Then I booted a live Mageia and went thru' a little dance to get more
packages listed so that I could add the tainted. I don't like how Mageia
handles the default condition of a live boot; I was able to 'get past'
its backward condition and install chromium after I added tainted.

Then I opened the Mageia chromium and approached the process of enabling
the pw manager similar to how I did it in MX, but I found that the
Mageia chromium already had that condition 'offer to save passwords'
already enabled, perhaps because I had enabled the encryption which I
had not done in MX.

I don't think it 'wise' of the Mageia dev/s to make their distro an
'unfriendly' live boot.

There are a great many people who like to 'sample' distro/s as they are
released by booting them live.

If Mageia is a difficult odd-ball which doesn't perform conventionally
under the simple condition of being booted live, and the user has to
learn some 'crazy' sekrit handshake to be able to install a package in a
live boot, he isn't going to like it and move on w/o appreciating
whatever features its current cadre of users like about the distro.

Similar problem / root cause here:

Given, I use 2 user-ids, user1 and unser2.

I log into (xfce) desktop under user1 and open chromium browser, use and
store a password, then after next login it is still there and autofilled.

When logging into desktop as user2, after that opening a shell and
performing a 'su - user1', then all should be same. But it's not:
Chromium 'forgets' all passwords from before and asks again. Though, when
logged in at desktop as user1, chromium remebers them.

Strange. Looks like being part of the same bug.

Best reagards,

Markus

You are referring to the W Unruh beef related to 'accessibility' of the
saved pw/s in chromium; not my 'beef' about the default condition of
booting a live Mageia having 'no' access to installing programs,
especially not installing a 'tainted' program like chromium.

Since I only 'store' website 'user' not website pw/s, and normally don't
often use chromium, I'm not familiar w/ the problem.

Yes, referring to what the original poster reported. Anyway, really
annoying having to enter the password each time, and I remember that this
once worked in former versions.
