A warning from scripture regarding your thinking:

"And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since
the fathers fell asleep [ancestors died], all things continue
as they were from the beginning of the creation."

And the relevant parts in answering this question by scoffers:

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one
day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand
      years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men
count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come
      to repentance.

In summary: He hasn't returned yet because He is desiring that all
who will come to repentance be given time to do so, because when He
does return, that will be it for our generation. The time of Grace
and Forgiveness will be over. At that point, it is His Wrath poured
out, death in the body, Judgement before God, and Death in Hell.

I urge everyone to consider what is coming, and to seek the Lord for
forgiveness. He is your only way out of damnation, and He is fully
sufficient for that task, able to save ALL who come to Him.

Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin

People are constantly being born and die. If they are dead they cannot
repent, if they are not yet born they cannot repent.
So what time?

The man is obviously an idiot. Just read the 2 passages above.
Who in their right mind would think those are answers to the subject
you raised?

When he first showed up, I pointed out the blatant fallacies in his
rhetoric. He's too much of a zealot to listen to reason and thus
he ended up in my kill file.

You've had a couple of go-arounds with him.
Do you think he's listening or is he just taking everything you say
as an excuse to spew more idiocy?

Put him in your kill file. You'll be happier as will the rest of us.

I don't get to argue with religious fanatics all that much. So far I've
been busy arguing with atheist fanatics, Both are "interesting".

Head over to alt.atheism.
Plenty of fanatics over there to argue with.
Sadly for your cause, the bulk of the posters are atheists,
the bulk of the fanatics are religious.

Who knows, you may come to the opposite conclusion.
I found the group an interesting insight into peoples
religious viewpoints.

People that think differently than ones self _are_ interesting,
I agree.

But this guy is a jerk. No class at all.
As I mentioned before, you want a class act in religious
proselytizing check out Mr Dunsapy. He's got this whole
series of circular arguments that make no sense that he
repeats so often that someone named it "the Dunsapy Bop".

From a purely academic or intellectual point of view, perhaps. How is
it that some other human can have an epistemology that differs so
drastically from mine? How can the claim to "know" something which I
regard as either false by simple observation; provably false;
unsupported by any evidence; or at least logically indeterminate?

Every detective story has a cop who "knows", wrongly, that a
particular person dunnit. The previous generation of Little Old
Ladies "knew" that if a man and a woman spent the night in the same
house alone, they were having sex. Less acute scientists "know"
elements of the current Kuhnian "paradigm" rather than accepting them
as a tentative working base pro tem. How such "knowledge" arises and
how it segues from notion to belief to "knowledge" -- *that* is
interesting.

But arguing with people who "know" things that are demonstrably false;
which are evidently indeterminate; which are not subject to any
objective asessment; -- arguing with such people is just tedious.

And it's recursive. If you go, e.g., to a Christian college or
seminary, you can find arguments over whether the prophet Isaiah was a
single inspired-by-God individual or whether there were four
individuals who contributed to the book of Isaiah as textual/lexical
analysis suggests, in which case the collator(s) and translators must
have been equally inspired. Will the 2nd coming occur
pre-tribulation, mid-trib or post-trib? Is it possible for a person
who is "un-saved" (and thus by default a tool of Satan) to preach the
Gospel of Jesus or would that violate the necessity of his Satanic
servitude, implying that he is, in fact, "saved" but sadly
backslidden? Could Jesus read and write?

Boring. I have no more time for arguing fruitlessly with evangelical
atheists than with evangelical Christians or evangelical Muslims (some
of whom are beginning to appear on Usenet) or, for that matter with
extremist Jews, Hindus or Buddhists (the extremists among whom aren't
AFAIK evangelical but "know" things devoid of supporting evidence.)

This guy isn't a troll in the usual Usenet sense. He want to
evangelize the world. You aren't *supposed* to find him
"interesting". You're supposed to have an epiphany, a "conversion
experience" and suddenly, without any explanation, "know" what he
knows.

My old high school motto was a not very original "facta non verba"
Two of the most devoted religious people I have ever met expressed their
beliefs by what they did. One is a mennonite friend (he dropped in to
say hello as recently as a couple days ago) he packed his tools
and went to Nigeria built a school and taught basic education to
students of all faiths. I very much doubt that he ever expressed any
religious dogma to those that benefited from his work. I have known him
for a couple decades as a neighbor. He certainly has never mentioned
beliefs but he has expressed various ways the world could be a better
place mostly with personal active intervention.

The other person was a monk in Osaka Japan that I saw almost daily for a
few months. He was hard working dealing with many local social issues.
He knew how to make things happen that were needed. Mostly through the
sheer force of a quiet polite personality. I had a beer with him a
couple times waiting for a late night commuter trains something that
didn't seem strange with him.

If Mr. Hodgin really wants to get his message out try demonstrating it
with his behavior, his plea bargain approach to personal responsibility
reflects his moral compass.

I've just been reading a book on that; a lot of propaganda was made of
their meeting, it was mostly USA v Britain; freemen v "natural" leaders -
and newspaper hype. Stanley was pretty much of his time and experience
(i.e. a racist). Livingston at least was anti-slavery.

LivingstonE.

Livingston is the Scottish town from which the -stonEs derived their name.

The town called Livingstone is in Zambia, although some shops in Livingston
do
not seem to be aware of that, to judge from their till receipts.

Dr. Livingstone". Watching that, Iearned a lot abou the good doctor.

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

It is impossible to understand the things of God unless God Himself
draws you to Him. It is why the message of salvation is for those
who can hear His call only. Those who cannot hear His call are not
being saved. Those who can hear His call will come to Him, and be
saved.

You can listen to the testimony of people who used to be atheists
(myself included), about how we were changed, and how we never, ever,
ever, would've thought it possible to go through the transformation
we did ... until it actually happened to us.

Until it happens to you, it is not something that can be fathomed by
the carnal mind, for it is spirit, and entirely of the spirit. It
goes back to the expression: "For those with faith, no explanation
is necessary. For those without faith, no explanation is sufficient."

It is true because it is literally Death (eternal death, spiritual
death) versus Life (eternal life, spiritual life). Those who are not
born again cannot see or know the Kingdom of God.

Salvation is extended to all who can hear His call. It is not
extended to anyone else. And all those who seek the truth with the
fullness of their being, will find it. Those who look in summary,
with pre-conceived ideas, unwilling to seek the truth in its entirety,
will forever have the truth hidden from them because they are not
looking for it.

Jesus will save ALL who come to Him. The only reason a person will
wind up in Hell is because they would not receive His free offer of
salvation, because they were not looking for the truth, but rather
were pursuing their own lusts, their own wants, their own ideas, and
in so doing, will perish in eternity, because they are not in pursuit
of truth.

Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin

Is it just me, or is this last paragraph a bit much? It pretty much
asserts that the only activities worth pursuing are religious
activities. Secretly, I think, he has written off the great mass of
those involved in creative and/or productive commercial industry.
They must certainly be destined for hell since they cannot devote all
of their being to a proper spiritual existence.

Once again, it seems only the elect will reap Heaven's bounty.

Everyone else has to stop being productive. Note that he sins every
time he insists that none of us are "saved". He has judged us which
is against Jesus' rules.

It's worse. Only the Xtians of his flavor will reap. All other
Xtians will go to hell also. The church I attended when I was a
kid insisted that all Catholics would go to hell.

none of his rhetoric is logical and the illogic is inconsistent.

Irrelevant to what he believes.

Hardly unusual with bible bashers.
