that have a track record of getting big things wrong and then quietly
walking it back.

They told you the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, then
later admitted it was real. They ran with the Covington kids story, then
backpedaled once the full video came out. They pushed the Trump–Russia
collusion narrative for years, and it ended with no criminal conspiracy
charged.
