If you install a 3rd party A/V Microsoft Defender disables itself, 
historically it's been a BadThing[TM] to have multiple A/V installed at 
the same time, they can trip each other up.

The act of saving the downloaded file is what gives the resident A/V its 
chance to scan it, I don't think a manual scan would do a better job, if 
you wanted to have two A/Vs give an opinion, why stop at two, let 
VirusTotal give you 50 opinions ...
