#6500 — Default font size GNU Emacs 24 - both GUI and Terminal

SubjectDefault font size GNU Emacs 24 - both GUI and Terminal
Message-ID<v440bb$3dupe$1@dont-email.me>
I'm running Debian 9.13 with MATE desktop.
Emacs is installed - I assume by default.
Both GUI and Terminal versions come up with extremely small font.
How do I get something legible?
TIA

Thanks for trying. I've haven't picked up knack of following Stack
Overflow threads. Also, from following first few links, I don't think
they are discussing my situation.

My installation offers choice of GUI or Terminal.
Both are too small.
When working with something new I prefer terminal over GUIs.
The Terminal version is so small that menus can not be selected by mouse
click.

I suspect a missing or corrupt configuration file.
What is its name and where would it be found on a Debian Linux system?
TIA

The font size in a terminal is determined by the terminal. Which
terminal emulator are you using? In MATE Terminal you can increase the
font size by pressing ctrl-shift-+

In the gui version of emacs you can set the default font from the
options menu.

Why did you post this in the Seamonkey group? There is a gnu.emacs.help
group.

MATE is my default and ctrl-shift-+ acts as expected.
Applications->Accessories->GNU Emacs 24 (Terminal) launches with

It must be launching its own terminal emulator as ctrl-shift-+ has no
effect.

Yes. I'm from 026 and KSR35 era and prefer terminals. Relatives wonder
about me ;}

I don't recall ever installing Emacs and thus assumed it was part of
default install. Also did not know of gnu.emacs.help .
I just subscribed.
Thank you.

When I do that it launches MATE Terminal.

Try launching MATE Terminal first, and then run emacs with emacs -nw

You could also look at the process list and see what terminal is
running.

ps aux

Emacs isn't usually installed by default, but Debian 9 is rather old, I
can't even remember if I used it.

Opening a MATE instance and just typing "emacs24" launches Emacs
complete with newbie suitable helps.
Need a second cup of coffee.
Thanks.
