J'imagine bien que les anciennes consoles ne nécessitaient pas
d'acquérir en plus un système de développement encore plus coûteux,
pour fabriquer des jeux vidéo. Les méthodes de développements étaient
sans doute assez rudimentaires, et le matériel réduit à son minimum.

Les codeurs sont devenus très exigeants, avec la sophistication des
architectures, et le matériel de développement plus accessible. Mais
les kits de développement sont souvent destinés à des professionnels,
et les acquéreurs de console, sont devenus de simples utilisateurs.

Il reste possible comme l'a compris ATARI, de faire apparaître une
communauté de développement, grâce à la disponibilité de OtherOS, à un
coût très réduit, pour n'importe quel possesseur de la console VCS.
ATARI annonce clairement qu'il ne s'adresse pas uniquement à un public
privilégié, et qu'il veut mettre à disposition du plus grand nombre,
pas seulement les gens aisés, la puissance de sa technologie.
