I've recently bought a relatively cheap IPCam (Techview) and assessed another one (YouSee). For both cameras it is necessary to log in to view the live stream. Fair enough. But this login involves sending one's user id and password back to some Chinese server in the cloud which then activates the camera. This means that it is not possible to logon without internet access. Perhaps I'm a bit paranoic but it seems to me that when one sends one's user id and password to that cloud, they would be able to see your WAN IP address. At the very least they can then see the output from your camera if they wanted to. Why do they need to have this authentication in the cloud? Why not locally? I suppose I'm comparing this with the recent concern about Huawei sending information from their 5G products back to China.
