The old Nam Phong Airport, is not the current

The wife wants us to go vacation in Thailand.
Perhaps.

Got me thinking of how close we would be to where
I was a long time ago.  Until June 1972 the
Royal Thai Air Base Nam Phong, had been just a
patch of concrete in the middle of a jungle.
As Bob Hope later described it, it had all the
ambiance of a vacant weed filled lot.
He learned that a '6 holler', was not a golf course!

But when I went to google Maps and put in to find
Nam Phong Airport, they went to a different place.

They say it is now a regular airport called Khon Kaen.
That is not the same place.  The old one we used is
still (again!) quite vacant, about 15 miles northeast of
the new / busy one.
It would take over an hour to do it by car/taxi.
You can see them both on Google Maps, satelite view.
Whatever,,, an on topic of Vietnam post!
