I haven't followed the latest episodes in the drama, but IBM sold off 
their fabs.

A friend interned with IBM in college and went on to work for them all his 
life. Fortunately he was of retirement age when they pulled the plug on 
Essex Junction. Many people weren't that lucky. According to Wiki IBM and 
Global Foundries have settled their suits and countersuits.
