There is no "sub-registry", only domains and sub-domains.

Yes, Github could have domains where they provide sub-domains for there
users. But it makes no big difference if you have

https://<username>.<something>.github.com

or

https://github.com/<username>/<something>

In any case, it is *not* your domain, but just an URL provided by Github.
