oric etc analyst / programmer £15k etc remember the ads phoned up "oric" I think it was ended up working at UCL DEC ultimate microdata they had their own 4GL "UDO" price waterhouse FMS and public service systems they went bust then ICS cowboy shop - arev and networks selling all over the place - don't want to deliver the isoft model the csc model - crooks then I think? dunno poole dorset - terranova working for jewish guy supporting his systems linked to fax (something) then converted royal insurance system to dec universe at DEC actually took the tapes up there I think I missed one there compument - pickedi (pick on edi) all over the country supporting installing training fixing was even at mcdonnel douglas shoring up the crap (pickedi) needed a rewrite told em at the time EDI is all its just like pick anyway just map it onto pick ah whatever then the RPSB stormed through the place programming ah well i don't want to go into it too much that prime information did a lot of work but was passed over ideas/projects stolen from me wasn't "favored" dealt with an incredibly bad situation there caused by elkie holland supplying contractors who had 0 knowledge of pick/mvdbms (prime information) was told to train them - was giving them training sesssions other places (there's been lots) banking merchant banks - commercial banks - worked for major german merchant outfit worked for a commodities broker went contract worked in sydney two contracts worked for credit union australia worked in two departments resolved major problems for them - worked with major situations (visa credit card system disintegrating) ended up in a sleepy politicized back hollow - just ended sick of it all just wanted to walk away was just sick of it all was offered renewal was even given the chance of working later in australian tax office just ended up nuts was going back to agent there knew i'd blown it went for a few interviews like north sydney remember driving crazily round to find this place met @ least 1 pick software house and one just dismal place wasn't getting anywhere - they sensed I had just lost it it was too hot man I remember driving through north sydney honda accord just late late late ah well yer - think I got three interviews didn't get anywhere one guy was like karl reti - theres a certain type in software I'm thinking do I really want another situation to go back in? eventually I did go back in out of sheer desperation - my final contract then I was going to do degree sussex uni - had passed year one years before (10) I was told that anyone else they would have let them onto year two like they didn;t let me onto year two i'd PASSED YEAR ONE really well 10 years before - was fresh keen - unfazed it was all easy so I was back there 2 weeks after was in hospital after that last contract (stomach ulceration) it just blew it really for me - ended up drunk/stoned it was sort of like a holiday I suppose failed the first fucking year again then went back zero money was delivering pizzas ended up just doing that fucking delivering pizzas best job I ever had screaming round 27 deliveries 1 night I did - only driver on was just stoned (really) and drinking a bottle of jd every night living in a hotel playing online chess all night (I was subscribed) got quite a good rating actually had some great long matches stoned used to get up at 4pm -- start again - cash in hand and free pizza - loved it loved the place brighton just excellent damn ah well years later i'm working in a factory with a pump truck and wondering what the hell happened one time I was in the factory office and said "i'll fix your computer for you" the agency got back to me (industrial temping) and said "don't say that to them" i'm like ok (I used to be a programmer you know) your knowledge your experience means nothing in this destroyed economy destructive monopoly of microsoft
