Some of you in 'home-networking' may remember that in the dim and
distant past (the days of Windows XP) I had managed to set up a small
home network. The devices on the network were:
1 a Novatech built desktop PC (Nova) with an 'AMD (Sempron ~1833
Mhz)' chip, with XP. ,
2 an Advent Netbook (Nettie) with an 'Intel "Atom" N270 processor,
with XP.
3 an Epson XP-335 printer/scanner/copier.
These three all received wifi BB from a Plusnet (Sagecom) router.
Since then a 'Sony Ericsson Xperior (Android) smartphone and a HUAWEI
MediaPad tablet (Android) have been added and both synchronise
successfully with Nettie, but not Nova.
As the years have quickly passed us by, XP no longer functions
well, or sometimes not at all on many websites these days and my
originally "IT dyslexic" brain is showing even more symptoms of the
ravages of the aging process. So I decided to bite the bullet and
invest in a more up to-date device. A 5 year old, but refurbished
Toshiba Tecra (Z50-C) (I call it 'Tosh') with ample sized SSD, Intel(R)
Core(TM) processor with Windows 10 Pro
As you will imagine, life coping with W10 after XP is to say the least
'difficult' so it's taking some time getting the thing working as I
would like. The most problematic thing at the moment is getting 'Tosh'
to work with any device on my network except the printer. That was a
doddle as 'Tosh' found the Epson XP-335 straight away and would print
and/or scan whenever I asked it to. The problem is that I cannot get
Tosh to find any other device on my network other that the router -
that was no problem either, but finding Nettie, Nova, Experior 'phone
or HUAWEI tablet was is a definite No No.
Is there anyone in here who could lead me to and hopefully guide me
through some procedure to unite Tosh with Nettie and Nova on my network.
Currently I'm reverting to a 64 Gb USB 3.0 Flash Drive to do the job.
