  These are *post*-paid ('contract'), right?

  And it seems that you want a long(er) expiry time, right?

  If both are correct, then you may want to have a look at *pre*-paid
Telstra mobile broadband.

  For example 5GB at $50, i.e. a little more expensive than Aldi (which,
AFAICT, you can't use anyway) and twice the price of Telstra post-paid,
BUT with *one year* expiry time.

  Anyway, have a look at Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband (for example):

<https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/telstra-pre-paid-4gx-wi-fi-plus>

  Main page at:

<https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/mobile-broadband/prepaid>

  You may also want to have a look at Telstra's data-bundles (BrowsePlus
Packs) for mobile *phones*. If you buy a SIM starter pack for that
service, you can use the SIM in a device which is/acts_like a WiFi
hotspot. Perhaps the speed of this service is lower, but the BrowsePlus
Packs (and Data top-up Packs) have different, often cheaper, price
points than Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband, BUT all with a 30 day expiry
time.

  Main page at:

<https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles>

[N.B. I see that you can now also use the 'Data Passes' with this, so
going this route seems more flexible than going with Telstra Pre-Paid
Mobile Broadband.)

  FYI, I use the latter on my trips in Oz, i.e. I use it as a 'data-SIM'
in a smart-phone, which is used as a WiFi hotspot. I can also use the
smartphone or a 'dumb'/'feature' phone USB-connected (USB tethering) to
my laptop, but normally I don't bother and just use the Wi-Fi hotspot.

  HTH.
