The widely accepted definition of "expert" disagrees:

"expert |ˈekˌspərt|
noun
a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill
in a particular area: experts in child development | a financial expert."

So according to the dictionary, a person can be an expert in a
particular area or niche.
