I certainly did "a minor amount of research" none of which addressed 
what I suppose I could have done better to relate. I was wondering, 
since one was labeled "GM" and was placed in the "Purchased section" 
and the new is still in the "Update section" and still labeled as 
"beta", if there was some functional difference between the two, as if 
they might in fact be two "forks", for whatever idiotic reason Apple 
might have had.

That is, I would have expected any update to the GM to show as "GM update."
