They've been doing that for years now. I used to have a
bit of a problem when out walking for exercise on well
outside town, but don’t anymore, due to the new towers.

No one with even half a clue has used 2G for a hell of a long time now.

No it doesn’t. Those new towers I can now see are all Optus towers.

They're doing it because they have installed so many new
towers in rural NSW and Victoria. Not sure what has happened
with the other states, the mobile homers I know all use Telstra
and due to a variety of reasons like lousy health no longer
tear around the country anything like as much as they used to.

One of the garage salers comes in every Saturday from a town
120KM to the west of here and often rings me on the way in
and hardly ever has any problem with a reliable connection.

There may not be too many reports but I know that Optarse has
put in a lot of new towers around here, which is why I now get a
plenty of bars even well outside of town in the direction of that
other town the mate of mine comes in from every Saturday.

Yes, Optarse has just been upgrading ours to 4G but that hasn’t
resulted in any worse data service. I just used it a couple of
Saturdays ago to try to drop a pin at a gate that is easy to walk
around well outside town and it worked fine apart from the fucked
user interface with google maps with that, not near any roads at all.

That’s even further out of town than where I used to have
some reservations about whether I would be able to call
someone if I managed to break something and needed
someone to come and get me instead of just dying there.

I don’t believe that small difference in frequency
would make any useful difference.

The NBN is just putting up two new satellites.

And the 4G/LTE service works fine in many places.
That fella that comes into town every Saturday only
has a mobile service even tho he could have ADSL2+
if he wanted it. They normally do go thru facebook
on the way in because his wife is usually in the ute
with him. They do the garage sales every Saturday
and the shopping and their daughter lives in this town.
